SUMMARY:Day Kitchen Duo
DESCRIPTION:The Day Kitchen Duo\nThe Day Kitchen Duo are two Alexandria\, Virginia neighbors who found each other by chance and who have recently joined together to create an unbelievably fine musical combination. They play a genre and era defying mixture of originals and cover songs that pull from a deep understanding of American music in the last 100 years. Lifelong full time musicians\, they incorporate the well-known and the obscure. Whether it be Pop\, Jazz\, Rock\, Country or Blues it all finds common ground with melodies and lyrics that move your heart and harmonies and rhythms that connect us all. \nDavid Kitchen is a songwriter\, guitarist and teacher who is restlessly active in the local music scene. He plays and sings in a totally approachable\, energetic way that the The Washington Post called “a mixture of charm\, attitude and tunefulness”. He has won several awards from The Washington Area Music Association (Wammies) including Songwriter of the Year and Best Pop Vocalist. David regularly continues the DC tradition of playing a wide variety of music with The David Kitchen Band as well as with The Thrills\, The Cahoots and Swell. \nAustin Day is a musician and music instructor from Virginia. Austin began teaching himself guitar and piano as a child and quickly became fascinated with the world of music. An impressive multi-instrumentalist he excels at the guitar\, piano\, harmonica\, mandolin\, and banjo. Austin enjoys playing and collaborating with many local artists\, including Pressing Strings\, Laura Tsaggaris\, and Griefcat. When not on tour\, he can be found teaching after-school music and summer camp on Capitol Hill and working as a session musician at Ivakota Recording Studio.

To let a cat out of the bag supposedly means to let a secret slip out — but for Bill it means freedom. Freedom from confinement\, convention… even gravity. Freedom to hit the road and play rock ‘n’ roll.\n \n\n That’s the energy driving the title track — a “good-to-be-alive song\,” says Kirchen. “It’s a celebration of getting through the worst of the pandemic unscathed\, getting back on the road\, and affirming our belief that the kids are alright.”\n \n\n The music flowing from Kirchen’s roots-loving heart blends boogie-woogie\, jazz\, jump blues\, western swing\, country\, folk\, and other idioms — yes\, he was playing Americana before it had a name. He helped pioneer the genre when he co-founded Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen\, whose sizzling version of Hot Rod Lincoln stormed to the top of the charts in the ’70s.\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nAbout Bill Kirchen\n\n \n\n\n\n Dubbed the “Titan of the Telecaster” by Guitar Player magazine\, Bill Kirchen is a roots music institution. His nimble fingers and rock ‘n’ roll soul have been turning heads since the 1970s.\n \n\n His singular style mixes boogie-woogie\, jazz\, jump blues\, western swing\, country\, and folk into something that defies easy categorization — because he was inventing Americana long before anyone called it that.\n \n \n\n \n\n\nCo-Founder \nCommander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen \n \n\nChart Hit \nHot Rod Lincoln — Top 10\, 1972 \n \n\nNew Album \nCat Out of the Bag — 2026 \n \n \n \n★   One Night Only   ★ \nBill Kirchen\nFriday\, May 15  ·  6:00 – 8:00 pm \nBuddy Lou’s\, Hancock MD \n\n Buddy Lou’s Eats · Drinks · Antiques\n 11 East Main St\, Hancock\, MD · 301-678-6460
